Choose a hosting provider and domain name for your website
The first step in learning how to build a website is choosing a hosting provider . A hosting provider is the company that “hosts” your website, keeping it running behind the scenes and keeping it live and visible on the internet. I recommend using a hosting provider called Bluehost. They are very affordable and have been in the hosting world for almost two decades, powering some of the world’s most popular websites. I chose them mainly because their customer support is top notch and is always willing to help troubleshoot any technical issues while you’re still learning how to build a website. So, open Bluehost. Then click on the green “Get Started Now” button :
Choosing a Hosting Plan: Next, you’ll need to choose a hosting plan that will power your site and make it visible online. I recommend the Choice Plus plan (which is what I originally used to build my site). It comes with Domain Privacy, which keeps your personal information (name, email, phone number , and address) from being published online as the official owner of your site. With this plan, Bluehost protects this information on your behalf. Click the green “Choose” button on the plan you choose:

Any of these hosting plans will work while you learn how to build a site, and you can always come back to add domain privacy later, either during the checkout process or further down the list for about $1/month on top of your plan. Next, you’ll want to choose a domain name for your site. A domain name is the address of your website on the Internet. My name, ryrob.com, is a nickname I’ve had for years, so it immediately became one of my best blog name ideas. Your domain name should be at least somewhat related to your business, your name, or the topics you plan to write about. It could be something like yourwebsite.com or bobscargarage.org . The options for choosing a domain name are virtually endless (it’s affordable).
Here, you'll enter the domain name you want to use for your site. If your chosen domain name isn't available (which is likely), you can either try another one that comes to mind, or (what I recommend) choose the option to choose a domain name later, after you've received the rest of your hosting plan and spent a little more time thinking about your site name. In this guide, I go into detail about how to choose the right name for your site if you haven't decided yet. You can also use tools like this awesome business name generator to come up with even more ideas. Here, you can choose your domain (it's the pop-up that will appear if you stay on this page long enough or move your mouse to the top of the page):
