Ready to switch to Google Analytics 4?

Post by kumartk »

Switching from Universal Analytics to Google Analytics 4 requires preparation. In addition to a Google Analytics account, you'll need Google Tag Manager and a container for your GA4 properties. You can optimally configure GA4 in just four steps.

1. Create a new GA4 property
The foundation for capturing new data in GA4 is a new GA4 property. This property ensures your data is correctly captured and processed. To do this, go to your Google Analytics account and select "Admin ." Then, select the band data desired account and data source and click "Create Property . " Enter the requested information.

2. Configure the data streams
After you've successfully created your first GA4 property, it's time to configure the data streams. To do this, go to the "Data Streams" menu and select the property you created. Then, add a data stream for your property and select the desired platform—in our case, "Web" for tracking data on your website. Then, enter your website URL and name the new data stream.

3. Set up tracking via GA4 with your website
Use Google Tag Manager to set up GA4 tracking on your website. Create a new tag in Google Tag Manager and configure it as "Google Analytics: GA4 Configuration ." Enter the measurement ID of your data stream and select the "Send page view event when this configuration loads" option to track page views. You can also add additional triggers later under "Fields to set."

4. Create custom events
In addition to page views, you should create additional events to track with GA4. Open Google Tag Manager, create a new tag, and select "Google Analytics: GA4 Event." Select the configuration tag and set the trigger for the event.

Tip: When creating the data stream, you can select the "Enhanced Measurement" option. This allows you to track specific events directly in GA4 without creating a new event in Google Tag Manager.

This completes your initial tracking setup with Google Analytics 4. Define additional goals and link additional data sources to GA4 to maximize the potential of your tracking. This way, you can collect targeted data and adapt your website and business goals based on data.
