My favorite thing to do with my mom is sit by the pool.
Some of my favorite childhood memories involve the pool! My mom and I have spent countless hours sitting by the pool in her backyard, and I like thinking about how those times have changed over the years.
When I was little, my mom would sit and read in the sun while I would strap on my goggles and dive in the deep end for pennies or play around on one of the huge, animal-shaped floaties we used to have.
Now we both sit reading our books, drinking chilled white wine, and will take breaks to chat whenever the mood strikes. These are some of my most cherished times with my mom!
My parents got divorced when I was less than two years old, and although I spent half list to data of my time with my dad as a kid, it was still really hard on my mom. She would work long hours in DC and then rush home to pick me up from daycare, and was always struggling to make ends meet. I was one of those kids who was the first to be dropped off at daycare and the last one to get picked up, and I know that was always really hard on my mom (and my dad too). Even though we had a lot of trouble financially when I was younger, my mom always put on a brave face and I never really knew how bad things were.
Luckily everything turned around for her by the time I was in middle school, and I’m so glad things are easier for her now. In fact she’s on vacation in Italy as I type this post, so I think it’s safe to say things have changed for the better.
My mom doubles as my best friend.
I feel so incredibly lucky that I have a great relationship with my mom, and I feel like I can talk to her about anything. I know she won’t judge me and will offer me great advice, which is the ideal mother/daughter relationship in my opinion.
I give my mom a lot of credit for working so hard to be successful.
As I mentioned, we had some really tough years in my childhood. I also mentioned that my mom has her own PR firm, which has done amazingly well. My mom works with my stepdad and has built the company to be quite successful, while still maintaining a great work-life balance. Her hard work definitely shows, and I think it’s incredible to see all that she’s accomplished.
The most amazing thing that my mom has ever done was raise me as a single parent.
