Discoveries in unexpected places

Post by pappu9265 »

Olga's life changed after the birth of her child, and three years passed in doubt about her professional skills and chances of getting a good job. She tried to maintain her old interests, studying, baking and drawing, but "she was not ready to be tied to a stroller" and found it difficult to look to the future with confidence while sitting at home with a child and relying on her husband's salary.

“I was convinced, and rightly so, that not many companies are willing to hire a woman with a small child and a lot of sick leave for an office position.”

Having received a higher education, Olga returned to work special lead after three years of maternity leave. Despite her promotion, the situation in the department was far from comfortable, and it seemed that her immediate supervisor treated young women like furniture. She was not ready to put up with such an attitude, and soon decided to leave.

Determined not to repeat the experience, Olga found the positive side of the experience. She says, "I wanted to be a marketer. Knowing how difficult it is to sell intangibles, I decided to work with physical goods."

It was more difficult for the young mother to find a job outside the usual IT sphere. Some HR responded and advised to stay in the field of information technology.

Olga remained hopeful and continued to learn, gaining experience in the process that she hopes will be useful to others. She realized that she had set the bar low for employers: “The companies I worked for wanted publications and increased sales without a budget, solely from my salary.” Having been burned once and not wanting to step on the same rake, she decided to clarify the financial side before accepting a new position: “I specifically asked about the budget, and they assured me that there was one. It turned out that it was still just a salary. It was a period of disappointment. So when I was offered a part-time administrative job with a tolerant attitude towards sick leave, I jumped at the chance to take a break.
