Example of a conversation

How to use EQ to resolve conflict:

Self-awareness : When you understand your own emotional reactions, you can better regulate them and approach conflicts with a calm and collected demeanor.
Active listening and effective communication: Practice active listening to understand the perspectives and concerns of all parties involved in the project. You should also encourage open communication and use the necessary communication tools to achieve these goals. By communicating confidently and transparently, you can clarify misunderstandings, build trust, and facilitate conflict resolution.
Problem-solving skills: Learn problem-solving techniques, tools, and strategies for resolving conflicts collaboratively. Some learning management tools, for example, offer courses on conflict management and interpersonal skills. Likewise, some employee engagement systems offer feedback mechanisms that encourage ongoing communication and dialogue among b2b email list project team members, which can help proactively address conflicts.
Expressions that help PMs listen actively and show empathy when resolving conflicts:

"I understand that you feel that way."
"Could you please explain that in more detail?"
"So, if I understand you correctly, you mean that..."
"So you feel frustrated because..."
"What exactly caused you to react that way?"
"It seems you are very disappointed."
"I can imagine that this must be very difficult for you."
"Your point of view is absolutely understandable."
"I would like to help you find a solution."
"I really appreciate your openness."
Project managers should demonstrate that they are listening attentively through eye contact and an open posture. They should always give their conversation partner sufficient time to think and avoid judgmental statements.

Employee: "I'm very frustrated because the resources for my project are simply not sufficient."
Project Manager: "I understand that you feel very frustrated. It's completely understandable that you would like more resources. Can you please describe in more detail what resources you are lacking and how this affects your work?"

2. EI for self-control
Project managers are often faced with a multitude of tasks, deadlines, and stakeholders. This complexity can easily lead to overwhelm and the associated emotional reactions. Project managers are often faced with high expectations, both regarding project results and the leadership of project teams. This pressure can make it difficult to remain calm. Conflicts are a normal part of projects. It requires a high level of self-control to resolve them constructively and not let emotions guide them.
